Hi-Acts

The Innovation Platform for Accelerator-Based Technologies.

Hi-Acts

Hi-Acts brings together players from the worlds of business and medicine with experts from the field of research in order to accelerate the development of pioneering technologies.

The new innovation platform Hi-Acts – Helmholtz Innovation Platform for Accelerator-based Technologies & Solutions – has the mission of making accelerator-based technologies accessible for industrial and medical applications via a single point of contact. This single-entry point offers easy access to the powerful Helmholtz infrastructure for not only the research and development, which operates in accordance with industry standards, but also comprehensive services.

Five leading Helmholtz research centers have joined forces for this purpose: Deutsche Elektronen-Synchrotron DESYHelmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-RossendorfGSI Helmholtzzentrum für SchwerionenforschungHelmholtz-Zentrum Hereon and Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin.

The experts and scientists of these partners have comprehensive expertise across a wide range of accelerator-based research and development fields. They are familiar with various accelerator technologies and types of radiation, including electron, positron, ion, neutron, X-ray, gamma, infrared, UV, and terahertz radiation. To this end, the centers operate unique large-scale research facilities in which these state-of-the-art, exact methods are applied.

Hi-Acts is establishing a cross-industry network that offers its members unique opportunities for networking and co-creation to develop innovative solutions across various business areas. Stakeholders from industry and research come together in close partnership to integrate deep tech solutions more quickly into industrial value chains, thereby accelerating breakthrough innovations for society.

Die Projektpartner können bei Hi-Acts von zahlreichen Services profitieren

Expertise in Research, Technology, and Transfer

The Helmholtz Centers not only have extensive expertise in research, technology, and data processing, but also in areas such as IP protection and funding applications. The platform allows partners to seek advice on these topics and take advantage of customized training courses and specialist seminars. They can also exchange ideas and form suitable alliances. And, of course, they have direct access to large-scale research facilities to book beamtime.

Straightfoward Access to Solutions through Hi-Acts Connect

A key Hi-Acts service, Hi-Acts Connect, allows potential partners to enjoy all the comprehensive benefits provided through the program.  To assist in finding the correct partner at Hi-Acts, interested parties should fill out a short form with their request or technological challenge to a central database – the Hi-Acts Single Entry Point. A  contact person then processes the information and connects the interested parties with the right experts or scientists within the network.  Based on the feedback, the project can be advanced.

Industry-oriented Promotion through Use Case Initiatives

Another offering from Hi-Acts is the Hi-Acts Use Case Initiatives, a streamlined funding program for industry-relevant activities. The platform provides half a million euros annually to support such initiatives by Helmholtz researchers at the participating centers. In particular, Hi-Acts promotes projects developed in collaboration with companies and that drive concrete applications. Companies are therefore expressly invited to contribute ideas for such cooperation projects and to create innovations together. Researchers are encouraged to submit applied ideas.

Early Access to Future Technologies in the Technology Labs

In addition, interaction with the Technology Labs gives partners early insights into proven future topics. The integrated Technology Labs funds projects to address innovative, transfer-focused open questions in medicine, product development, and industrial quality assurance. Hi-Acts aims to increase the Technology Readiness Level (TRL) and, through cooperation with industry, actively support the development and integration of new technologies for faster market entry. Five laboratories are currently integrated into Hi-Acts:

  1. Physics-informed AI @ Synchrotron
  2. (Novel) Compact Laser Plasma Accelerators
  3. Rhodotron & Cyclotron for Radionuclide Production
  4. High-energy Ion Implantation in Power Semiconductors
  5. Accelerators for (Thermal) Neutrons to Obtain Theranostic Radionuclides
Development of new Standards and Norms

Hi-Acts represents the combined interests of network partners in developing newstandards and norms. Many of the technologies developed within the platform's framework set new product or industry benchmarks. – As a partner, you can ensure that your own requirements are taken into account from the outset.

Hi-Acts Membership
