Strategies for the Transfer of Research Results in the Context of Open Science.
OpenTransfer
Within the framework of the OpenTransfer project, new methods for the improved transfer of knowledge and technologies in the context of Open Science will be developed and tested in pilot projects, including:
- Strategies and business models for transfer
- Tools for concrete and easy support of transfer processes
- Development and implementation of organizational structures and processes for Open Transfer in research institutions
The transfer involves the use of research findings outside of academia. Several models for commercial use exist, ranging from a paid product to a product free of charge. Hybrid approaches can also be structured depending on the purpose and nature of the usage.

Open Science
"Open Science" refers to an approach in science that emphasizes openness, transparency, and collaboration. It involves making scientific research findings, data, methods, and other resources freely accessible to enable broader exchange and increased collaboration. Open Science encompasses principles that involve the public in scientific discourse, such as open access to scientific literature, open data, open research processes, and resource sharing. The goal of Open Science is to enhance reproducibility, quality, and effectiveness of research results and methods, and to promote progress in science and society.

Business Models
In the context of "Open Science," there are various business models that aim to support the openness and free access to scientific findings. These models should ensure that the advantages of Open Science are financed sustainably and with a long-term perspective.
- Services: Services accompanying a free, open-source license: Various services support users in creating and successfully and efficiently using a finished, ready-to-use product.
- Dual Licensing: Open-Source Software or Hardware is not made available to all user groups or for all use cases equally. Certain groups (e.g., private individuals, non-profits, educational or research institutions) receive OSS / OSH under classic open-source licenses. Other stakeholders, such as commercial enterprises, can only use commercial licenses, which involve costs.
- Funding and Public Financing: Research projects in the field of Open Science can be financed by grants from governments, foundations, or other organizations to support the development and implementation of Open-Science practices.
Exploratory Project "SOS Transfer"
The exploratory project "SOS Transfer" investigated the potential impacts of Open Science strategies on knowledge and technology transfer from 2021 to 2022. Solutions were identified and developed to enable successful knowledge and technology transfer within the framework of Open Science.
