Identification and Evaluation of Partners Based on Patent Information.
Cooperation Expertise in Technology Transfer – KiTIE
At a time of urgent societal challenges, such as medical care, energy production, and climate protection, as well as complex technological issues and global competition, the role of large research institutions as drivers of innovation is becoming increasingly important. Traditional methods of technology transfer via personal networks or chance encounters can no longer keep pace with the growing demands for greater agility and precision.
Goal of the KiTIE project
The interdisciplinary KiTIE team has set itself the goal of developing a software prototype that enables the identification and evaluation of suitable cooperation partners based on patent information and its use. The software will allow technology transfer teams in research institutions to work more efficiently and effectively.
Core Functions of the IT-based Tool
- Identification and evaluation of cooperation partners: Based on technological expertise, relational characteristics, long-term goals, and access to complementary innovation partners.
- Prototype/testing: Testing and gaining familiarity with the use of the cooperation tool by the project partners involved, including transfer officers and project managers.
- Best practice examples: Develop a database of examples to validate the efficiency and effectiveness of the tool in searching for and evaluating technology exploitation partners.
Advantages and Benefits
The tool developed is intended to enable large research institutions to identify and evaluate suitable industrial partners faster and in a more targeted manner. This is particularly important for the transfer of climate-friendly technologies, as it enables institutions to determine in advance which companies are pursuing sustainable corporate goals and are already working with the right partners. Using the KiTIE tool, transfer offices can make informed, preliminary assessments of collaboration candidates without disclosing sensitive data. This contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of technology transfer and strengthens the innovative power of the participating research institutions.
Conclusion
The KiTIE project represents a significant step toward more efficient and effective technology transfer. The IT-based tool helps those responsible find suitable partners for the cooperative use of technologies, thereby contributing to the solution of pressing social problems.
