Procedure to Apply for Beamtime
At GSI several Program Advisory Committees (PACs) were formed to make recommendations for allocation of beam time based on written proposals submitted to the respective PAC. The decision on beam time allocation is taken by the Scientific Director of GSI based on the recommendations of the advisory committee, and is communicated in writing to the proposer of the respective proposal.
Calls for Proposals are published on the website of the respective PAC, on the platform GATE and through the users' mailinglist. To register to this mailing list please see the User Webpage.
NEW: From 2021 on, submission of beamtime proposals is done via the platform GATE (General Access Tool to the Experimental infrastructures of GSI). With a personal or GSI Web-login users can submit proposals as Proposers to PACs with open 'Calls', organize the experiment on site (Responsible Experimentalist) or participate in an experiment on the campus (Experimentalist). This is shortly described here.
Proposals contain information on the applicants, technical and saftely-relevant details in information on host lab resourcews required by the proposal submitted, and an uploaded PDF file explaining background, aims and setup of the proposed experiment. For a continuation request, a brief status report of the previous as well as an outline of the future experiments should be given.
