Provision of a Quench Detection (QuD) System for the superconducting (sc) magnets and copper current leads (CL) of the SFRS machine. One electronic detector unit (QuD-U) surveys one sc-magnet coil including two current leads via voltage taps (VT) directly at the object (life circuit). Two QuD-U types are available - B1 @high inductance magnets and B2 @corrector magnets.

The actual magnet protection is done by an energy dump resistor within each magnet power converter. Also QuD-U are integrated into each associated power converter. Reliable error detection and in succession triggering of this protection function is the main task of the QuD system. Moreover, it provides QuD data acquisition and is controlled remotely via local Ethernet network.
