Components
The Super-FRagmentSeparator is going to be the most powerful in-flight separator worldwide. It will provide clean and intense beams of unstable, short-lived nuclei of all elements up to uranium, necessary to explore special properties of nuclides very far from the valley of stability.
Beamline
The beamline is composed of various devices relevant for monitoring and directing the beams to their target areas. Typical devices are
- magnets like
- normal conducting dipoles, quadrupoles and sextupoles,
- energy buncher dipoles and multipoles,
- beam diagnostic devices
Additionally there are super conducting magnets like
- short multipoles and dipoles
in the beamline.
Supply and Infrastructure Components
The supply and infrastructure components are not hosting the passage of the beam. They are relevant for running and control the beamline components.
- Local cryogenics
- Power converters
- Vacuum components
- Hot Cell & Decay Cell
- Gas supply
- Data supply
- Robot system
- Flask (transport container)
- Helium pumping system
- Experimental interface components
Buildings Interface and Building Special Components
The construction of the buildings, inside which the SFRS will be placed, is under the coordindation of the FAIR-Site-and-Building (FSB) division. Information about FAIR Civil Construction can be found here.
Some peculiar aspects of the SFRS buildings require a close collaboration work between FSB and the Super-FRS work package leaders. These topics are:
- Interface aspects between building and machine
- Hot Cell & Decay Cell
- Radiation shielding in target area
Technological Challenges
- remote-control in high-radiation environment
- superconducting magnets with large apertures for maximum transmission
- diagnostic system with high rate capability
