As the Plant and Facility Engineering Department, we are responsible for:

• The operation, maintenance, and upkeep of the building services systems (BSS) in all GSI buildings and accelerator-related facilities, including heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, cooling, plumbing, and electrical systems.
• Maintaining and ensuring the operational readiness of the technical infrastructure facilities required for the operation of the accelerator and experimental setups. This includes, in particular, electrical systems up to 20 kV, utility systems such as heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and highly complex cooling systems, some of which contain radioactive components as well as the operation of drinking water and wastewater systems.
• Planning and management of major renovation and modernization projects for GSI’s technical facilities.
• Supporting the project management of major construction and engineering projects on the GSI campus. These tasks may involve appointing subproject managers for specific trades or providing subject-specific project support to ensure compliance with GSI plant standards. This ensures system conformity and facilitates efficient future maintenance and repair.

To carry out our tasks, the GAT Division is organized into four departments GET, GPA, GSA, and GVT comprising a total of 15 groups.

We are currently preparing to integrate the tasks related to FAIR’s building services systems into our departments as part of the transition to regular operations.
