The Department Building Services (GVT) is responsible for the proper and safe operation of all supply engineering systems at GSI as well as for their maintenance and repair. In addition to accelerator-related systems, this also includes general building services in the following areas:
- Cooling and cold water systems
- Recooling systems (cooling towers)
- Cold water generation and distribution
- General piping construction
- Special experiment cooling systems
- Compressed air generation and distribution
- Ventilation and air conditioning systems
- Smoke and heat extraction systems
- Heat generation and distribution
- Drinking water distribution and hot water preparation
- Hydrant systems
- Special water treatment systems
- Wastewater systems
- Wastewater pumping stations
The respective groups organize the necessary operational, maintenance, and order processes as well as the supervision of external companies. The timely procurement of services, materials and spare parts plays just as important a role in plant operation and scheduled maintenance/repairs as personnel and capacity planning. Particularly complex are the planning tasks involved in complete renovations, expansions and modifications of supply systems, which are designed, planned and built independently or with external assistance. After commissioning, they are handed over to our technicians for the operation, maintenance and repairs of the supply systems.
