BAU maintains the GSI building permit register and ensures that the relevant applications are submitted and processed until new permits are issued for changes to campus buildings.

Its responsibilities also extend to the fire safety assessment and classification of buildings in classes 1-5 as well as special structures. The team's tasks include supporting the recurring inspections by the building and construction supervisory authority as well as the hazard prevention inspections by the fire department of Darmstadt.

The structural fire protection team is responsible for, among other things, developing the necessary fire protection concepts and statements as well as assessing the conformity of proposed measures, conversions, and other projects (e.g., BiG) with applicable regulations and building legislation.

The team advises the entire campus on all matters relating to structural fire protection and building legislation.
