Reproducing space radiation on Earth
By developing specialized irradiation techniques, we are able to recreate space radiation environments using the GSI’s particle accelerator. Two methods have been developed to simulate the main sources of space radiation: solar particle events (SPEs) and galactic cosmic rays (GCRs). Access to these realistic radiation fields enables testing and characterization of biological systems and electronic components that must operate reliably in space, helping to bridge critical gaps in space exploration.
