As part of the commissioning of the Galactic Cosmic Ray Simulator (GCRsim) at GSI, we are investigating the relative biological impact of the high-Linear Energy Transfer (LET) mixed radiation field found in space, compared to high-LET single ion and low-LET (X-ray) radiation on cell survival and clonogenicity. Beam characterisation will continue with different shielding configurations as part of the HEARTS project, in close collaboration with the Space Radiation Physics Group.
