Shutdown Coordination

The operating year of the GSI consists of beam time and maintenance intervals followed by commissioning.

The maintenance phases are called shutdown, during this all facility managers have the opportunity to replace defective or worn components, carry out inspections and install newly developed components if capacities are free. Software changes are also incorporated and tested during this time.

Coordinating this work and the available personnel so that all work can take place smoothly and the entire accelerator facility is available for operation again at the end of the shutdown is the task of the Shutdown Coordination.

The coordination is carried out by the operations department because of the resources released during the non-operational time and the overview knowledge of the entire facility due to the daily work in operation.
