GSI and FAIR thank emergency services at summer party

07.09.2026

This year’s GSI and FAIR summer party featured a special highlight: expressing gratitude to the emergency services who extinguished the fire at GSI on February 5, 2026. As a token of appreciation, they were given exclusive tours of the campus, and the management presented an art book featuring drawings of GSI/FAIR’s research and facilities to incident commander Johanna Herdt on behalf of the entire team.

About seven months after the fire at GSI, GSI/FAIR used the summer party to once again thank the firefighters for their professional response. In the opening remarks, the management of GSI and FAIR addressed the guests and staff: “We owe a great debt of gratitude to the emergency services. Their swift, professional response during the fire played a decisive role in containing the blaze to a single building and ensuring that large parts of our campus remained undamaged. With today’s invitation, we would like to once again express our appreciation for your efforts.”

As a token of appreciation, the nearly 80 firefighters who accepted the invitation were invited to exclusive tours of the GSI and FAIR facilities and meal vouchers as part of the summer festival. This allowed them to get an up-close look at the research infrastructure in a relaxed atmosphere. In addition, the management presented the incident commander with an art book—a personal gesture of appreciation for the fire department’s entire response. (LW)
