Mourning Peter Mulser

We mourn the loss of our long-time colleague
Professor Peter Mulser,
who passed away on September 26, 2025, at the age of 88.
Professor Mulser was Professor of Theoretical Physics at the Physics Department of Technical University Darmstadt from 1981 to 2001. He conducted research on high-intensity light-matter interaction at the Institute of Applied Physics and worked closely with the GSI/FAIR Plasma Physics group from the very beginning. He passed on his extensive knowledge to many students, shared it with his colleagues in international research projects, and, until the end, wrote it down in several textbooks. For decades, he promoted scientific exchange at the “Incontro a Bolzano” and Hirschegg conferences. Even after his retirement, he remained connected to the university and, in particular, to GSI/FAIR through teaching and as co-organizer of the Plasma Physics seminar. He always had an open ear and time for our students' questions and problems.
He enjoyed ending conversations with humor. As a dedicated university teacher and passionate scientist, he earned lasting appreciation and contributed greatly to the reputation of our department and its field of research. We will honor his memory.
Our sympathy goes out to his family, Dr. Ruth Mulser, Claudia Wobig, and Ch. Tiedt.
