Instruction on Proposal Text :

Please describe the long-term vision of your project, even though you can apply for beam time for the next period only. The text should summarize the scientific justification and relevant technical details for the proposed experiment and should cite relevant publications (from applicant and from the research field). Proposals not prepared according to these guidelines risk being rejected on formal grounds.

Proposal text (max. 12 pages) according to the following structure:

  1. Abstract
  2. Introduction to the topic (including references to the "state of the art” and relevant publications of the applicants), scientific context and motivation
  3. Experimental background and referencing of experiments from previous beam times (if existing, including: what has been done and learned from conducted experiments in previous beam time; in case of previously B-rated proposal: what has been modified and in case of previously A_minus-rated proposals: what has been done)
  4. (New) approach in this proposal and relevance to the field of research
  5. Expected results and accuracy of planned measurements (including error bars), back up in theory
  6. Experimental design and methods inclusive schematic view of set-up, technical requirements and proposed work-plan
  7. Justification of beam time request
  8. References
You can download the Supplement Form for Safety Aspects here.

Do you apply for Transnational Access funding (TNA) in an Integrating Activity (I3) of the EC?

If you do, the Spokesperson or Co-Spokesperson should come from a non-German institution.
Please note When submitting the experiment proposal and requesting TNA funding, please note that you need to also submit an application with the respective TNA initiative! More information is given on this web page.
