Symposium „Future Perspectives of Biophysics Research at GSI/FAIR“

On May 30/31 the Biophysics Department hosted the symposium "Future Perspectives of Biophysics Research at GSI / FAIR". More than 100 participants discussed about the research status in the areas of radiobiology, medical applications of ion beams and space research. The broad interest in the activities of the Biophysics Department was reflected in many presentations and panel discussions with leading scientists of the field demonstrating that research at GSI ranging from molecular biology aspects to innovative therapeutic approaches is well integrated in the international research community. Many exciting ideas were exchanged providing the basis for future innovative research projects. It also became clear, how much in the past the research program of the Biophysics Department has benefited and will continue to benefit from the existing on-campus expertise in accelerator physics and detector technology.
