Dr. Vanina Cayón has recently joined the Materials Research group as a scientist to work on the design of antiviral surfaces using virus inactivation technologies. She has a Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry from the National University of La Plata (Argentina), where she gained experience from organic synthesis to conformational and structural characterization of molecules by various spectroscopic techniques supported by chemical quantum calculations. As a postdoc (Soft Matter Laboratory - INIFTA, Argentina) and in collaboration with GSI researchers, she focused on the investigation and rational design of nanofluidic devices based on track-etched solid-state nanochannels. At GSI, she plans to continue her training as a researcher in the field of materials for biosensing.
