Scientist / Researcher (f/m/d) in Physics for Next Generation XUV Ptychography

The Helmholtz-Institute JENA (HI Jena) is a joint institution of the Friedrich-Schiller-Uni-versität Jena and the GSI Helmholtz Centre for Heavy Ion Research GmbH in Darmstadt. The institute is mainly focused on applied and fundamental research at the borderline of high-power lasers and particle accelerators.

 

“Ptychography 4.0” is a pilot project within the HGF incubator "Information and Data Science" and involves scientists form various disciplines at the Helmholtz Centers DESY, FZJ, GSI/HI-Jena, HMGU, HZDR, HZI and HZB. Ptychographic imaging has experienced a dramatic increase in interest during the last decade with more and more applications being demonstrated. Nevertheless, further developments are needed to turn the technique into a real-time microscopy technique suitable for forefront research as well and routine use. “Ptychography 4.0” addresses these challenges by combining expertise in microscopy with expertise in data science aiming at establishing ptychographic imaging as a routine imaging method for different imaging modalities operated by the Helmholtz Association (HGF).

 

For the interdisciplinary project “Ptychography 4.0” we are looking for a

 

Scientist / Researcher (f/m/d) in Physics for Next Generation XUV Ptychography

Your responsibilities:

  • setting up table-top XUV Ptychography with wavelength-scale resolution
  • establishing a data work flow with high data rate and new reconstruction algorithms
  • pushing broadband Ptychography beyond the temporal coherence limit
  • observe ultrafast electron- and spin- dynamics on femtosecond and nanometer scales

 

Your qualifications:

  • practical experience in coherent imaging and/or profound knowledge in phase retrieval
  • profound skills in experimental work with Lasers & XUV radiation  and/or advanced programming skills
  • enjoy working in an interdisciplinary team
  • to be engaged in establishing novel imaging techniques
  • possessing a very good language proficiency in English and at least basic proficiency in German
  • Post-doc or PhD

 

We offer an initial employment contract of 3 years with a possible extension.
Salary is equivalent to that for public employees as specified in the collective agreement for public employees (TVöD-Bund).
