The publication Friedrich T., Durante M., Scholz M. Modeling Cell Survival after Irradiation with Ultrasoft X Rays using the Giant Loop Binary Lesion Model. Radiat. Res., 181:485–494 (2014) has been selected as the Best-Paper-of-the-Year from the Gesellschaft für Biologische Strahlenforschung (GBS). The award will be handed over during the GBS Annual Meeting in Tübingen on September 30, 2014.

Christian Graeff was awarded with the second prize of the Behnken-Berger Foundation for the year 2014, which is endowed with 10,000 euro. He receives the award for his work „Motion mitigation in scanned ion beam therapy through 4D-optimization“. The award was handed over during the conference „Dreiländertagung Medizinische Physik“ in Zurich on September 7, 2014. GSI press release

16th Christoph-Schmelzer-Award - Call for Nominations

 

The “Verein zur Förderung der Tumortherapie mit schweren Ionen” (Association for the promotion of ion therapy) accepts nominations for the 16th Christoph-Schmelzer-Prize which is awarded in 2014 to outstanding Diploma (Master) theses and PhD theses* related to tumor therapy with ion beams which were completed within the last two years. The prize in memory of the founder of GSI, Prof. Christoph Schmelzer includes a certificate and a prize money of 750 € for Diploma (Master) theses and 1.500 € for PhD theses.

 

*) Over the past years the price was given annually alternating for Diploma (Master) theses or PhD theses. As of 2014 the price will be awarded annually to both Diploma (Master) theses and PhD theses.

Nominations (no self-nominations) should include:

− reasons for the nomination

− short CV of the nominee

− Copy of the Diploma (Master)-thesis or PhD-thesis (pdf)

− One letter of reference

Joanna Deperas-Standylo has received during the 40th COSPAR Scientific Assembly in Moscow the "Outstanding Paper Award for Young Scientist" for the manuscript entitled Production and distribution of aberrations in resting or cycling human lymphocytes Following Fe-Cr-ion or ion irradiation: Emphasis on single track effects (Advances in Space Research 50 (2012) 584–597).

Prof. Marco Durante will give a pubic TEDx talk on space radiation in the ROCKETMINDS event  at ESA-ESOC (Robert-Bosch-Straße 5, Darmstadt), on Thursday, May 8, 6:00 pm. There will be a only a limited number of tickets available.

The course "Radiation Biophysics" held by Prof. Marco Durante at TUD will start on Tuesday, April 15, 5:10 pm in the room S207/109, Hochschulstraße 6, Darmstadt. The course will continue every Tuesday and Wednesday in the same room from 5:10 to 6:50 pm. TUD students should register on TUCaN (course 05-21-1662). All other students (including biologists and physicists) working in our group at GSI are welcome to attend.
