Members of the Hessian Parliament visit GSI/FAIR’s SCIENCE POP-UP

05.06.2025

Recently, the three members of the state parliament from Bündnis 90/Die Grünen in the Hessian Committee for Science and Art, Nina Eisenhardt, Hildegard Förster-Heldmann and Daniel May, visited GSI/FAIR’s SCIENCE POP-UP. Dr. Ingo Peter, Head of the Public Relations department of GSI/FAIR, welcomed the guests and gave them a tour around.

The focus was on the innovative concept of the SCIENCE POP-UP with the existing and planned educational outreach and education activities offered by GSI and FAIR. The future of the SCIENCE POP-UP was a particular point of discussion. Since the end of March, the SCIENCE POP-UP project has been offering low-threshold access to the world of cutting-edge research in a centrally located store in Darmstadt's city center. The interactive exhibition is aimed at anyone between the ages of five and 95 and uses exhibits, films and hands-on stations to make complex physical phenomena understandable and tangible. With various workshops and a school laboratory experiment, there are also special offers for school classes and interested small groups.

During a short tour, the politicians were able to get an overview of the interactive exhibition and the school laboratory. A school class, present at the same time, demonstrated how the various stations work. Afterwards, the MPs were able to try the interactive stations themselves and investigated how particles are accelerated, generated and observed. With the help of virtual reality glasses, they also took a virtual tour of the GSI/FAIR campus in Darmstadt-Wixhausen. (AB/MK)
