The broad expertise of the scientists at the GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung and at the accelerator center FAIR, currently under construction, is in demand. Latest occasion: The radiation biologist Professor Claudia Fournier from the Biophysics Department of GSI was appointed by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) as an expert to a United Nations scientific committee meeting.

Claudia Fournier, who leads the research field "Immune system and tissue radiobiology” at GSI, was member of the German delegation for the annual meeting of UNSCEAR. The United Nations Scientific Committee on the Effects of Atomic Radiation (UNSCEAR), set up by resolution of the United Nations, publishes reports, which provide a scientific basis for the recommendations of the ICRP (International Commission on Radiological Protection) on radiological protection concerning ionizing radiation.
