Contract Signed for Cooperation with FAIR
Scientists of the Forschungszentrum Jülich will build the High Energy Storage Ring HESR for antiproton experiments at the international accelerator facility FAIR at GSI. Administrative director Simone Richter and scientific director Boris Sharkov of the FAIR GmbH signed the contract about the cooperation on October 17, 2011, together with deputy CEO Karsten Beneke and Sebastian M. Schmidt, member of the board of directors, of the Forschungszentrum Jülich. The HESR will improve the quality, precision of energy and bundeling of the antiproton beam. The Jülich scientists will contribute their longtime experience and knowledge from construction and operation of the Jülich Cooler Synchrotron COSY. Some detectors, accelerator components and new methods for beam preparation for the HESR are currently tested and optimised at COSY.
