National Prize of the Russian Federation for Boris Sharkov
Boris Sharkov, Scientific Director of FAIR, together with his group of scientists and engineers from the Institute for Theoretical and Experimental Phyiscs (ITEP), Moscow , and the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR), Dubna, was awarded with the National Prize of the Government of the Russian Federation for Achievements in Science and Technology. The researchers received the prize for their development of the new heavy ion accelerators TWN and NUCLOTRON for fundamental research in Russia. Russian prime minister Putin signed the corresponding statement on February 25, 2011. The awarding ceremony with the delivery of the prize by Putin himself will take place in fall 2011. The prize is endowed with one million Rubel for the research group as well as with a medal , a Laureate honour title and privileges after retirement.
