GENCO-Award for Tommi Eronen
This year's GENCO-Award of the “Nuclear Structure, Astrophysics and Reactions” (NuSTAR) collaboration was awarded on March 3, 2011 to Dr. Tommi Eronen of the University of Jyväskylä, Finland. The GENCO (GSI Exotic Nuclei Community) awards this prize each year during the annual conference of NuSTAR. Young scientists are rewarded for outstanding scientific work in the fields of nuclear physics, nuclear astrophysics and related fields. GSI’s Technical Director Hartmut Eickhoff (picture left) awarded the 500 Euro prize to Tommi Eronen (picture right) for his work in precision experiments with exotic nuclei (N=Z) close to the proton drip line. These investigations contribute to a better understanding of the electroweak interaction (unitarity of the CKM matrix) and are related to possible cycles of element synthesis in stars.
