On Tuesday, 27 March 2018, a delegation of the CDU fraction of the Hessian Parliament visited the research center of FAIR and GSI. A research team led by physicists at LMU Munich reports a significant advance in laser-driven particle acceleration. Using tiny plastic beads as targets, they have produced proton bunches that possess unique features, opening up new opportunities for future studies. The experiments were performed at the PHELIX laser on the campus of GSI und FAIR.
