On the occasion of Open Data Center Day (TdoRZ), 78 participants and two school classes took the opportunity to visit the Green IT Cube high-performance data center on the GSI/FAIR campus. Guided tours allowed them a look at the data center's particularly sustainable and energy-efficient technology and informed them about its scientific applications.

The Czech Republic, Aspirant Partner of FAIR, provides detector modules to be used in FAIR’s Super Fragment Separator (Super-FRS) as part of the NUSTAR experiment pillar. A respective Memorandum of Understanding regarding construction (so-called C-MoU) was recently signed by Professor Thomas Nilsson, Scientific Managing Director of FAIR and GSI, and Jörg Blaurock, Technical Managing Director of FAIR and GSI, during the “NUSTAR Week 2025” collaboration meeting in Prague.

Hessian State Parliament Member Sebastian Sommer (CDU) visited GSI/FAIR together with his Head of Office, Daniel Georgi, to learn about the scientific activities and the construction progress of the international accelerator facility FAIR. The guests were welcomed by Prof. Dr. Thomas Nilsson, Scientific Managing Director of GSI and FAIR, Dr. Katharina Stummeyer, Administrative Managing Director of GSI and FAIR, Jörg Blaurock, Technical Managing Director of GSI and FAIR, as well as Dr. Ingo Peter…

We mourn the loss of our long-time colleague Professor Peter Mulser, who passed away on September 26, 2025, at the age of 88.
Professor Mulser was Professor of Theoretical Physics at the Physics Department of Technical University Darmstadt from 1981 to 2001. He conducted research on high-intensity light-matter interaction at the Institute of Applied Physics and worked closely with the GSI/FAIR Plasma Physics group from the very beginning. He passed on his extensive knowledge to many students,…

Slovenia has successfully completed its in-kind contribution to FAIR. Jörg Blaurock, Technical Managing Director of FAIR and GSI, signed the final acceptance documents together with representatives of Tehnodrom, the Slovenian FAIR partner organization. Next to the signatories, also government officials, researchers from the Jožef Stefan Institute, and industry stakeholders participated in the ceremonial event held at Cosylab’s headquarters in Ljubljana.

“MegaScience Project FAIR – Commissioning of the international particle accelerator facility in Darmstadt begins”: Under this headline, the management of FAIR and GSI – Scientific Managing Director Professor Dr. Thomas Nilsson, Administrative Managing Director Dr. Katharina Stummeyer, and Technical Managing Director Jörg Blaurock, invited to a parliamentary evening in Berlin. The event was held under the patronage of Dr. Michael Meister, Minister of State for Federal-State Cooperation. Numerous…

This year's SPARC collaboration PhD Prize was awarded to Dr. Guy Leckenby from University of British Columbia, Canada, for his thesis entitled “Exotic Decay Measurements at the Experimental Storage Ring for Neutron Capture Processes”. The ceremony took place in the framework of the 22nd SPARC Topical Workshop at the University of Ioannina, Greece, where the award was handed over by Prof. Reinhold Schuch from the University of Stockholm and the spokesperson of the SPARC collaboration.

GSI/FAIR scientist Privatdozent Dr. Michael Scholz received the Ulrich Hagen Prize for his contributions to radiation research at this year's annual conference of the German Society for Biological Radiation Research (DeGBS) in Munich. The prize is awarded for outstanding achievements in German radiation research – typically for lifetime achievement.

With exciting insights into the world of research and many interactive activities, the GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung and the emerging international accelerator facility FAIR captivated visitors to the Open House at the Hessian State Representation in Berlin. On October 3, the Representation, together with numerous Hessian institutions, offered a varied program that attracted around 14,000 guests.
Every year on Tag der Deutschen Einheit, the state representations open their doors…
