We mourn the loss of our long-time colleague Professor Peter Mulser, who passed away on September 26, 2025, at the age of 88.
Professor Mulser was Professor of Theoretical Physics at the Physics Department of Technical University Darmstadt from 1981 to 2001. He conducted research on high-intensity light-matter interaction at the Institute of Applied Physics and worked closely with the GSI/FAIR Plasma Physics group from the very beginning. He passed on his extensive knowledge to many students,…

Slovenia has successfully completed its in-kind contribution to FAIR. Jörg Blaurock, Technical Managing Director of FAIR and GSI, signed the final acceptance documents together with representatives of Tehnodrom, the Slovenian FAIR partner organization. Next to the signatories, also government officials, researchers from the Jožef Stefan Institute, and industry stakeholders participated in the ceremonial event held at Cosylab’s headquarters in Ljubljana.

“MegaScience Project FAIR – Commissioning of the international particle accelerator facility in Darmstadt begins”: Under this headline, the management of FAIR and GSI – Scientific Managing Director Professor Dr. Thomas Nilsson, Administrative Managing Director Dr. Katharina Stummeyer, and Technical Managing Director Jörg Blaurock, invited to a parliamentary evening in Berlin. The event was held under the patronage of Dr. Michael Meister, Minister of State for Federal-State Cooperation. Numerous…

This year's SPARC collaboration PhD Prize was awarded to Dr. Guy Leckenby from University of British Columbia, Canada, for his thesis entitled “Exotic Decay Measurements at the Experimental Storage Ring for Neutron Capture Processes”. The ceremony took place in the framework of the 22nd SPARC Topical Workshop at the University of Ioannina, Greece, where the award was handed over by Prof. Reinhold Schuch from the University of Stockholm and the spokesperson of the SPARC collaboration.

GSI/FAIR scientist Privatdozent Dr. Michael Scholz received the Ulrich Hagen Prize for his contributions to radiation research at this year's annual conference of the German Society for Biological Radiation Research (DeGBS) in Munich. The prize is awarded for outstanding achievements in German radiation research – typically for lifetime achievement.

GSI/FAIR is collaborating with ABB to improve the energy efficiency of its scientific infrastructure. Formally launched last week on site in Darmstadt, Germany, the collaboration project with ABB focuses on the highly advanced technical infrastructure within the existing and operational GSI accelerator complex.
