GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung in Darmstadt operates one of the leading particle accelerators for science. In the next few years, the new FAIR (Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research), one of the world‘s largest research projects, will be built in international cooperation. GSI is a member of the PUNCH4NFDI (Particles, Universe, NuClei and Hadrons for the NFDI) consortium, which aims to develop suitable methods and technologies for the analysis and publication of scientific data up to the exabyte range. This consortium, in which experts from particle, astroparticle physics, astrophysics, hadron and nuclear physics work together, has been funded by the DFG as part of the NFDI of the National Data Infrastructure. The Information Technology department is looking for a person to participate in the setting up/implementing an authentication and authorization infrastructure, which is required to set up an exchange platform for information on archives, data management software and services for the communities’ active in PUNCH4NFDI.

 

Your tasks

 

  • Implement the necessary AAI infrastructure to establish an exchange platform for information on archives, data management software, and services for the communities active in PUNCH4NFDI
  • Interdisciplinary cooperation with national and international research teams
  • Presentations of work results at national and international conferences
  • Publication of software and work results on relevant platforms

 

Your profile

 

  • Successfully completed studies (master's degree, diploma) in computer science, physics or a comparable field of study
  • Profound experience in: Authentication and Authorization Systems: OpenID, Shibboleth, SAML and/or Kerberos/Microsoft AD and secure and reliable design, setup and operation of infrastructure services on Linux
  • Experience with enterprise identity management services and processes, ideally in an academic/research environment
  • Experience with configuration management systems (Chef, Puppet, Ansible, Salt, etc.), devops practices, and collaborative software development (git, github/gitlab, ...)
  • Very good Linux skills, ideally Debian
  • Good German and English written and verbal

 

Your working style is structured and independent. The use of documentation tools during your work is an efficient support for you. You have strong communication skills, a confident manner, as well as a high level of methodological and social competence and the willingness to acquire missing knowledge independently. The ability to work in a team across groups and a solution-oriented working style are required.

The position is limited until 30.09.2026. The salary is based on the collective agreement TVöD (Bund) applicable at GSI. Home office is partly possible by mutual agreement.
