The department ‘Electric Power Systems (EPS)’ is looking for an

Engineer (all genders) Electrical Engineering / Electrical Power Engineering

to perform engineering tasks of specification, procurement, construction and commissioning of power converters which will supply magnets within the FAIR project as well as to support, further develop and upgrade of the power converters in the existing GSI accelerator facilities.

 

The successful candidate will work in the Electric Power Systems department of Commons and with the responsible scientists, project engineers and other specialists from other departments.

 

Your tasks:

  • Planning,  simulation and design of power converters with high requirements on power, precision and dynamic operation (including time,  resource and budget planning, collaboration with other departments)
  • Creation of detailed specifications and procurement documents
  • Planning of the integration of the power converters into the infrastructure
  • Cooperation and supervision with/of international partners and manufacturers connected with the construction of the FAIR project
  • Testing and commissioning of the power converters
  • Planning and implementation of the upgrading/maintenance measures of the existing power converters at GSI
  • Disconnection of the power converters from the low and medium voltage supply systems as well as following connection and re-commissioning
  • Other eventual necessary tasks in radiation protection areas, in high-voltage systems, on high platforms and gratings, and in confined spaces.

 

Your profile:

  • Master (MSc.) or Bachelor (BSc.) degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • Knowledge in the area of Electrical Power Engineering or more precisely, power electronics and control systems
  • Experience with simulation software tools
  • Good knowledge of German and English (spoken and written)
  • Openness for short-term worldwide travelling
  • Readiness to take part in the on-call duty during operation periods of the accelerator (beam time)
  • Independent way of working and ability to integrate into an existing department (teamwork and communication skills).

 

We offer a permanent employment contract. Salary is equivalent to that for public employees as specified in the collective agreement for public employees (TVöD Bund).
