The task includes participation in ensuring the operational readiness of more than 950 power supplies for the beam guiding magnets and high-voltage devices in the existing accelerator facilities through regular service/maintenance/troubleshooting and new procurements or upgrades of power converters in GSI and FAIR.


Your tasks:

  • Maintenance, repair and operation of power converters and high-voltage devices
  • Planning and execution/contracting of upgrade measures/shutdown measures in close coordination with the service team leader, accelerator operation group and other involved departments as well as with the surrounding infrastructure responsibles.
  • Creation of detailed specifications and tendering documents for the procurement of new power supplies for GSI and FAIR, interfaces clarification with other departments
  • Project execution incl. budget planning, ensuring documentation
  • Acceptance / functional tests of the procured power converters, e.g. at international manufacturers (FAT)
  • Commissioning of power supplies after repair or upgrade and installation of the new ones in operating buildings or on test stands (SAT)
  • Execution of electrical disconnections on low and medium voltage systems as well as recommissioning incl. work order processing
  • Planning, layout, assembly, wiring and testing of electrical circuit boards
  • Maintenance / updating of device documentation (e.g. in EPlan)
  • On-call duties during accelerator beam and test periods
  • Assumption of devices responsibility
  • Work in radiation protection areas and high-voltage facilities
  • Cooperation with international partners related to the construction of the FAIR project.



Your profile:

  • University degree in the field of electrical engineering / electrical power engineering or comparable
  • Expertise in electrical engineering, power electronics and high voltage technology
  • Experience in the commissioning and operation of complex machines and systems
  • Experience with MS-Office
  • Knowledge of occupational safety regulations
  • Knowledge in the use of simulation software
  • Fluent written and spoken German as well as good written and spoken English skills
  • Ability to work in a team and willingness to continuously develop.



We offer an interesting position in an internationally renowned research institute. The position is permanent. The salary is based on the collective agreement for public employees (TVöD).
