For working in the Accelerator Survey and Alignment Team of the Normal Conducting Magnets and Alignment (NCM) group, we are looking for the following person to join us as soon as possible
Engineer (all genders) as scientific-technical employee for high-precision 3D surveying and alignment of the accelerator facilities

Your tasks:
- Development of measurement and adjustment concepts for the precise 3D measurement of FAIR's new facilities and facility components in the 0.1mm accuracy range (coordinate systems, fiducialization of accelerator magnets, simulation calculations of geodetic networks, adjustment capability of components, special measurement solutions, etc.) as well as the development of special tools (hardware and software) for specific accelerator measurement requirements
- Participation in the technical and administrative planning, organization and coordination of the geometric, high-precision 3D surveying work on the existing and future accelerator facilities and their components
- Supervision / instruction of external measurement service providers as well as cooperation partners incl. data preparation - such as nominal coordinate and transformation calculations -, analysis / control of measurements partly with existing (special) software, interpretation and presentation of results
- Surveying support e. g. at magnetic test stands for FAIR as well as QA measures and "as built" measurements
- Involvement in the operation of the calibration laboratory: testing, calibration, maintenance of existing instruments; data management (databases); reports and documentation; software.
Your profile:
- You have some years of professional experience in the field of industrial surveying and very good knowledge of modern high-precision 3D surveying instruments and methods from the field of metrology and 'micro-geodesy' (laser tracker, photogrammetry, measuring arm, total station, laser scanner, etc.) as well as fundamental knowledge in adjustment calculation
- You may have previous experience in accelerator surveying
- You might have experience in programming languages like Python, C++, and/or others
- You like to work in a small team of surveying specialists, to seek a constant exchange of information and yet to act very independently and on your own responsibility
- You would like to demonstrate your very careful, structured and solution-oriented way of working and at the same time you are curious, creative and interested in expanding your technical know-how
- You have organizational talent, excellent communication and documentation abilities as well as very good German and good English language skills, which you will use when working together with technicians and engineers also from other departments as well as with accelerator physicists to ensure that measurement and adjustment requirements are taken into account during planning and installation work.
