Digital Signal Processing Engineer (C++) (all genders)

You are contributing to the development of beam-based systems for monitoring and control of the FAIR accelerator complex. On one hand, you will work on the realization of frameworks for the efficient implementation of operational software in distributed systems, on the other hand you will create operational software using methods from signal processing and accelerator physics.

 

Your Tasks

  • Develop software frameworks for the automated acquisition, conditioning, and processing of beam and device signals using methods of digital data analysis and signal processing
  • Assist users of the software frameworks by providing documentation, example programs, and training
  • Develop middle-tier software services implementing semi-automated monitoring systems and beam-based feedback systems for accelerators based on beam measurements and employing algorithms from accelerator physics, as well as the corresponding graphical user interfaces
  • Maintain and upgrade similar existing systems, in close collaboration with their users (operators, equipment specialists, physicists)
  • Support the users of the operational software services by offering training and by participation in standby duty
  • Optimize the performance of the developed software systems taking into account the users’ feedback

 

Your Qualifications

  • University degree (MSc. or diploma, preferably PhD), in a related discipline (instrumentation and control, software engineering, computing, computer science, applied physics, or equivalent)
  • Demonstrated experience in modern C++ software techniques; sound knowledge of OO principles and software patterns; demonstrated experience in design and development of modern, multi-layered, distributed software systems implemented in C++
  • Demonstrated experience with data analysis and digital signal processing
  • Experience with particle accelerators or similar facilities will be a plus
  • Experience with open-source development and agile processes will be a plus
  • Ability to work scientifically, combining experience and expertise in the areas of software development, signal processing, and accelerator physics; ability to acquire any necessary additional skills autonomously
  • Achieving high-quality results on time by means of a structured and organised approach towards work and by the ability to set priorities and plan tasks with results in mind
  • Ability to work well in a team, taking a supportive or active role in team activities as needed
  • Communicating effectively by expressing opinions, ideas, and suggestions with conviction and in a logical, structured manner, keeping to the point
  • Strong communication skills in English, including the ability to write high-quality technical and scientific documents
  • A good knowledge of German is of advantage, otherwise the willingness to quickly learn it is a requirement.

 

We offer

At our internationally renowned research institute, you will, once fully familiarized with the job, perform diverse and challenging work within an experienced project team.

The position is limited to a term of 3 years. Salary is equivalent to that for public employees as specified in the collective agreement for public employees (TVöD Bund). Working from home is possible by agreement.
