Data Manager / Database Expert (all genders) in the FAIR project

 

GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung in Darmstadt operates one of the leading particle accelerators for science. In the next few years, the new FAIR (Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research) one of the world's largest research projects, will be built in international cooperation. For our department „Project Management Office“, we are looking for a

 

Data Manager / Database Expert (all genders) in the FAIR project

for the next possible starting date.

 

Your tasks:

 

  • Further development of existing IT tools for project and cost reporting using programming and database skills
  • Development, administration and maintenance of the central database in the project and its interfaces (to Excel, SAP, financial and project plans as well as other data sources)
  • Advising PMO and project managers on central and specific questions regarding data usage and availability
  • Special tasks for data analysis
  • Assumption of subtask packages during the introduction of a new project management software in an agile team

 

 

Your Qualification:

 

  • A degree in scientific or technical studies (FH diploma or bachelor's degree/ master's degree, if applicable) or comparable qualification
  • Sound knowledge of a scripting language (e.g. VBA, Python, R) and relational databases (SQL, TSQL)
  • Very good knowledge and confident handling of Excel
  • Affinity to complex projects, IT and technical topics
  • A structured way of working with a good understanding of the users requirements
  • Experience in large-scale engineering site projects and/or reporting is advantageous
  • Knowledge of standard project management tools and methods
  • High level of initiative, independent and responsible action, high commitment to quality and user-oriented work results
  • Good expressiveness in German as well as knowledge of English, both written and spoken

The position is limited until 31.12.2026. Salary is equivalent to that for public employees as specified in the collective agreement for public employees (TVöD Bund).
