Civil engineer (m/f/d) in project management

We are building the international accelerator Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research FAIR, one of the largest research projects worldwide, next to the facility of GSI Helmholtzzentrum for Heavy Ion Research, whose existing accelerators serve as injectors. The FAIR GmbH, an international company owned by Germany and nine partner countries from Europe and Asia is responsible for the project realization. At FAIR, an unprecedented variety of experiments will be possible. Scientists from all over the world will be able to gain new insights into the structure of matter and the evolution of the universe from the Big Bang to the present.


The division ‘FAIR Site & Buildings (FSB)’ is looking for a:


Civil engineer (m/f/d) in project management

This challenging and accountable position comprises constructive cooperation in a multi-disciplinary project team during structural realization and commissioning of the FAIR project. The FSB project team takes implementation responsibility over 1 Billion Euros project budget towards the shareholders and more than 1000 researchers within the FAIR scientific community.


Your tasks:

  • Contract management:
    • Contract follow up within the scope of the project on the basis of the legal and other guidelines, such as RZBau, HOAI, VOB, etc.
    • Construction operational support in the development of planning contracts, construction service contracts and contracts with special experts
    • Development of holistic recommendations for action
  • Award management:
    • Construction operational support in the tendering and award of construction services
  • Supplementary management / claim management:
    • Support in the construction review and negotiation of supplementary offers of planning, construction services and construction time supplements, applying rules of GWB, VOB and BGB
    • Merging into supplementary overview lists
    • Quality management and reporting of claim management
    • Support in risk analysis / risk assessment / risk management


Your profile:

  • Successfully completed studies of civil engineering (diploma or master)
  • Professional experience and extensive expertise in the execution phase (LPH8) of large construction projects and technically complex construction tasks
  • At least 2 years of professional experience in a responsible position or as a representative of the owner of large construction sites (> 300 million € award volume)
  • In-depth knowledge of construction process planning and calculation of construction work
  • In-depth knowledge of the VOB and HOAI as well as the technical regulations
  • Experience in project management of large construction sites, especially in quality assurance, risk management and follow-up management
  • Safe handling of MS Office and planning software, especially MS Project
  • Very good knowledge of German is required, good knowledge of English is an advantage
  • Confident appearance towards the contract partners of the client

We furthermore expect you to communicate and network on a professional level as well as showing a high degree of motivation and understanding for our customers in the scientific community.


We offer:

An interesting job in the core team during the challenging realization phase of the FAIR site and buildings project. The position is limited to 5 years. The salary follows the applicable FAIR collective agreement TVöD (federal government).
