GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung in Darmstadt operates one of the leading particle accelerators for science. In the next few years, the new FAIR (Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research) one of the world’s largest research projects, will be built in international cooperation. For the development and eventual system operation of detectors for the future Super-Fragment-Separator (SFRS) at FAIR as well as for the currently operative Fragment-Separator (FRS) at GSI we are seeking applications of experts (d/f/m)for scientific instrumentation and engineering with a strong background of electronics engineering, mechatronics or physics, in particular experimental particle or nuclear physics.




The candidate (d/f/m)will have a good record on detector technologies, in particular but not exclusively on gaseous particle detectors for the use in high energy and nuclear physics. Ability to work in a distributed, international team with scientific as well as technical background is a prerequisite.

Scientific engagement of the candidate (d/f/m)in nuclear physics and/or instrumentation is highly desired and welcomed.

The position is initially limited for 5 years. However, the position offered is a tenure track position at the Detector Laboratory, where upon approval the candidate (d/f/m)may be accepted as permanent scientific technical staff at the Detector Laboratory for the operation of the FRS and SFRS.


Salary is equivalent to that for public employees as specified in the collective agreement for public employees (TVöD Bund).
