The Helmholtz Institute Jena (HI Jena) is a joint institution of the Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena and the GSI Helmholtz Centre for Heavy Ion Research GmbH in Darmstadt. The institute is mainly focused on applied and fundamental research at the borderline of high-power lasers and particle accelerators.


For development of the new target area for the JETi laser system, we are looking for a


Scientist / Researcher (m/f/d) in Physics

The work at the Helmholtz Institute Jena will focus on

  • planning and realizing the new target area and experimental setups therein,
  • planning and conducting experiments on high power lasers,
  • operating the JETi laser in collaboration with technical personnel


We are looking for a postdoctoral Scientist

  • with profound practical experience in high power laser experiments and operations,
  • who likes to work in an interdisciplinary team,
  • and possesses a very good language proficiency in English and German.


What we offer


A fixed-term 2.5-year contract with a possible extension, with the salary and benefits based on the Collective Agreement for the German Public Service (TVöD-Bund) effective at GSI.
