Research Centers of the Helmholtz Association

More than 31,000 staff members in 18 Helmholtz Centers work on a wide range of topics, such as A for astrophysics, B for biology, C for cell research, and so on. The most modern scientific infrastructure, including, in particular, large-scale facilities and instrumentation, make the research institutes centers for outstanding scientific work.

The Helmholtz Association of German Research Centres

The Helmholtz Association contributes to solving major challenges facing society, science and industry with top scientific achievements in six research areas: Energy, Earth and Environment, Health, Key Technologies, Structure of Matter, Transport and Space. With an annual budget of approximately 3,3 billion euros, the Helmholtz Association is Germany’s largest scientific organisation. Its work follows  the tradition of the great natural scientist Hermann von Helmholtz (1821-1894). www.helmholtz.de/en

Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research

Scientists at the Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research (AWI) are researching the poles, seas and climate. They aim to unravel the changes taking place in the global environment and System Earth which are partly natural and partly caused by human action.
