started shortly after GSI's foundation in 1969. Since then, it
has expanded into many areas of research ranging from nuclear
and atomic physics to plasma physics, radio-biology, radiation
safety, accelerator physics and detector technology.

Welche
Kraft hält die Atomkerne im Innersten zusammen? Woher rührt die Masse
der Kernbausteine? Wie sind die chemischen Elemente entstanden. Dies
ist nur eine kleine Auswahl von grundlegenden Fragen, mit denen sich
die Hadronen- und Kernphysik befasst.
Die vorliegende Broschüre des Komitees für Hadronen- und
Kernphysik (KHuK, ) gibt einen Überblick über die faszinierenden
Forschungsinhalte dieses Arbeitsgebietes und fasst Empfehlungen des
KHuK für die künftige Entwicklung der Hadronen- und Kernphysik in
Deutschland zusammen.
Die Broschüre richtet sich an Persönlichkeiten aus Wissenschaft,
Wirtschaft und Politik, an junge Nachwuchswissenschaftler/innen aller
Disziplinen, an Vertreter/innen der Medien und ganz allgemein an den
"interessierten Laien". Das KHuK möchte auf diese Weise die Faszination
physikalischer Grundlagenforschung vermitteln und den Dialog zwischen
Wissenschaft und Öffentlichkeit befördern.
