The Department for Mechanical Engineering is mainly oriented towards mechanical engineering and is part of the Division for Scientific and Technical Infrastructure at GSI. It is in charge of all engineering-related tasks such as project planning and development, design, calculation and production - just like an engineering service provider. The department is involved in about 90% of all mechanical-engineering projects at GSI, the majority of which are connected to construction, further development and extension of accelerators and experiment setups. The Department for Technics and Engineering provides its services for scientists and accelerator constructors. Up to now, its activities have focussed on the development and construction of prototypes.
