Configure ICA Client for Windows

With the ICA Client you can access the Windows Terminal Servers from outside GSI. Through them the familiar Windows environment (data, e-mail, SAP, etc.) is available.
To connect to the servers you need to install and configure a client software on your PC.

ICA Online plugin for Windows 2000, 2003, XP, Vista and Windows 7 (CitrixOnlinePluginFull.exe Version 12.1.0.30).

Hint:
You may need administrator privilege on your PC to install the ICA client software. Former versions will be uninstalled automatically. Save the plugin to your harddrive and follow the installation instructions.

After completing the installation, you will be asked for the Server Address.
Please type: https://wints.gsi.de and click the Button Update.

After that, type your Windows Username, Password and Domain

Now the connection is configured.
You can see the status at the color of the icon in the right side of the taskbar (if you don't see it, the inactive icons are activated. You can change this, with a right click on the Taskbar, choose Properties,  tab Taskbar and deactivate Hide interactive icons).

To start a desktop or application, click on the icon and choose Desktops → Desktop or choose Applications to start an application e.g. Outlook 2003.

To establish the connection can take quite a while depending on your internet access. If you don't get a login screen it might be possible, that no free license for the Terminal Server is available at the moment. Just try again.

In spite of a common user name there are two different user profiles for PC and Terminal Server, which have to be configured seperately.
If you did not setup a Terminal Server profile yet: see WXP Profil configure.

General hints:

  • When starting Windows the Online Plugin is also started automatically, i.e. the login window is indicated. To change this, please remove the Onlineplugin from the startup folder (Start, Programs, Startup → right click on the CitixOnlinePlugin and choose Delete.
  • To start Citrix manually, click on Start, Programs, Citrix, OnlinePlugin
  • The Terminal Server session will start in full screen modus. It could be, that you can't see the full screen. With the key combination [shift] + [F2] and minimize you can customise the window size. To change the windows size permanently for the Windows Terminal Server, right click on the Citrix Icon in the Taskbar and choose Options → Session Settings. Here you can choose your preferred window size .
  • In the explorer you can see the drives (without the floppy) of your PC in addition to the drives on the Terminal Server.
The drives of your own PC have the label on 'Client'. The designator on 'winfilesva' and on 'winfilesvb' respectively indicate the network drives of the Terminal Server.

Configure ICA Client for Linux

You are able to use one of the Windows Terminalservers from an inter active Linux machine with the command win2k.

If you call this the very first time you will get preconfigured entries for the pool and several machines automatically.

For additional entries you should make the described steps:

  • Create a new entry via the icon  or Entry - New
  • Configure the connection like the following screenshots:

After changing an existing connection it could happen the entry desktop described above is missing. So you will get an error message like the one shown below:
