E-Mail Archiving at GSI
If you want to use the central e-mail archiving at GSI you have to be registered as a user for archiving. However, it only makes sense if your mailbox size is larger than 1 GB. For information about your mailbox size and its folders please use Tools, Mailbox Cleanup (click the button near Size of your mailbox). The label total size (including subfolders) indicates the overall size of the mailbox (1024 KB is equal to 1 MB)).

In order to reduce your mailbox size on the GSI mail server we will transfer mails older than 500 days to an archive server. Once a week these respective mails are archived according to a scheduled task. You won't notice this process at all.
In Outlook you will recognize archived mails by this Icon: 
We archive all e-mails bigger than 10 KB and e-mails with an attachment. The following folders (and subfolders) won't be archived if they are located on a superior level - meaning same level as inbox (attention: case sensitive):
- Deleted Items
- Gelöschte Objekte
- Trash
- Junk
- Spam
- Privat, privat
- Private, privat
You may also use the web interface (https://mailarchive.gsi.de/archiveweb) in order to access your archived mails. To logon, please use your Windows account: Campus\<account> with the associated password.
With Outlook you are able to search in your mail archive and also archive, restore or delete individual mails yourself. For this purpose an Outlook addin has to be installed on your PC.
Please go to: Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Run Advertised Programs
- select "Metalogix GmbH AddIn Setp 3.0.9.005 Englisch (USA) - Install Silent"
- Button Run
If you open Outlook you see the buttons "Archive", "Restore", "Delete" und "Search". Using these buttons you can handle your archived e-mails.
This addin is also installed on the terminal servers , so you have access to your archived e-mails there as well.

Access with other E-Mail Clients:
If you use another e-mail client, you have only read access but you can't archive, restore, delete or search. For these operations please use the webinterface (https://mailarchive.gsi.de/archiveweb).
 Please note:
Please do not archive more than 50 e-mails at once, because the server performance will be very poor. In this case do not hesitate to contact our administrator via mailarchive-servicegsi.de. He will initiate a separate job on the server.
