State of the art experiments in nuclear and particle physics require more and more complex readout electronics in minimal space. In addition special requirements not known in other fields as radiation hardness have to be fullfilled. Due to these reasons application specific integrated circuits are used in experiments.

To come up to this process and to support experiments in the field of ASIC-design an ASIc design group belonging to the experiment electronic department was founded at GSI in 2002.
