Early-Stage Researchers (ESR) and

Experienced Researchers (ER)

FP7 Marie Curie Network for Particle Detection

MC-PAD is a multi-site Initial Training Network on particle detectors for the next generation of particle physics experiments and other applications. It provides excellent training opportunities to young researchers in this field, which may lead in the case of Early Stage Researchers (ESR) to a PhD degree from a cooperating University. Candidates for an Experienced Researcher (ER) position should have already a PhD degree in physics or engineering or four years of equivalent experience. The Detector Laboratory of GSI Darmstadt is involved in three out of twelve subprojects addressed in MC-PAD, which are focused on the instrumentation of the upcoming FAIR experiments.

We are herewith inviting applications for two ESR positions and one ER position for the following MC-PAD projects:

1.   MC-PAD-1(ESR): Design of integrated silicon detector modules for CBM, including a complete DAQ system enabling the evaluation of the modules performance.

2.   MC-PAD-5 (ESR): Development of a large tracking device for the PANDA experiment, based on Time-Projection-Chamber (TPC) technologies using GEMs (Gas Electron Multipliers).

3.    MC-PAD-11 (ER): R&D on front end electronics for novel CVD diamond detectors. Realization of a multi-channel diamond detector and its readout with broadband ASICs.

The MC-PAD Network starts in November 1, 2008 with considerable financial conditions. The ESR positions are offered for three years, and the ER position for two years, respectively. Although the official application deadline is exceeded, interested candidates are still encouraged to start with an informal application via email, which should include their Curriculum Vitae and a short description of their research interests. The full application can be sent after the first contact.
