Joint Research Activities

The following Joint Research Activities will be pursued within EURONS:

  • All facilities may profit immediately from efficient charged-particle generation for their accelerators. Improvements of complementary ion-source and breeding techniques are addressed in the three activities Advanced Charge Breeding, ISIBHI, and LASER.
  • The intensity upgrades of the facilities, in particular for radioactive beams, induce increased demands for radio-protection. In order to ensure safe operation, the needed developments will be investigated by SAFERIB.
  • INTAG (for in-beam spectroscopy), and DLEP (for decay products) aim at a new quality of particle identification enhancing the selectivity and implementing the most recent advances of digital electronics. By similar means, AGATA will allow gamma-ray spectroscopy of unprecedented selectivity and efficiency. Their results will be universally applicable to improve the performance of the facilities.
  • Reactions in inverse kinematics are of particular promise, they are addressed in a dedicated and complementary manner with EXL (storage rings), RHIB (relativistic beams), and ACTAR (medium- and low-energy beams)
  • High-precision experiments will be applied to slow and stopped ion beams with TRAPSPEC (precision spectroscopy in ion traps).
