The MentorNetwork

Since 2004 GSI has been cooperating with the MentorNetwork of the Johann Wolfgang Goethe-University Frankfurt in order to promote equal opportunities for women in the natural sciences and in technical fields. This partnership intensifies cooperation with the universities with regard to developing personnel resources and helping aspiring students fulfil their career goals.

The focus is on preparing female students for their professional future and on introducing them into research institutes. Female employees of research institutions have the opportunity as mentors to further develop their own qualifications, to reflect their own attitude and to train their management and coaching competences. Mentoring opens new perspectives and offers an experience from which the mentors will profit in their everyday professional life.

At present, 6 female physicists and one engineer at GSI are involved in this project. If you have any questions, please contact Petra Schütt or Christina Trautmann.

Helmholtz Mentoring Program

Furthermore, the Helmholtz Gemeinschaft offers a mentoring program with the aim, on the one hand, of preparing young female scientists for more ambitious professional positions and, on the other hand, to strengthen the network between scientists of HGF.
A HGF-project group is in charge of the program and an external company supports and evaluates it. A new opening was advertised on Nov. 15, 2005 for postdoctorands (promotion 2-5 years ago) as well as for young women in the fields of administration and management who are eager to get into a leading position. More details on the Helmholtz website.
