General entrance requirements for the controlled areas

To have access to the GSI controlled areas, the following conditions need to be fulfilled:

- medical examination (not older than 12 months)
- GSI online instructions in general safety and general radiation protection (not older than 12 months)
- the accumulated effective dose of the current year is below 20 mSv
- the accumulated effective dose of working life is below 400 mSv
- and - last but not least - you need to carry an official dosimeter

If the person is not an employee of GSI, then additional subjects are required....

 

Employees and guests coming from a German company

External employees and guest of German external companies need to bring their radiation passport (Strahlenpass). Additionally the German external company needs a special licence, the so called §15 licence of the German radiation protection ordinance. Connected to this there must be a demacation contract between the GSI and the German external company.

List of requirements:

• must visit the safety and radiation protection instructions (computer aided instructions). Before you log in to the online instructions, please read this first.
• medical certification which is not older than 12 months, this medical certificate must state that there are no objections against a work with ionising radiation
• Radiation passport
• §15 licence
• demarcation contract
• dosimeter (own + barcode or GSI-dosimeter)
• form "safety procedures at GSI" must be read and signed

 

 

 

Employees and guests coming from a Non-German company

Employees and guests coming from a Non-German company don't need a §15 licence. But they do need the following things:

• must visit the safety and radiation protection instructions (computer aided instructions). Before you log in to the online instructions, please read this first.
• medical certification which is not older than 12 months, this medical certificate must state that there are no objections against a work with ionising radiation.
• Certification of the occupational radiation exposition which includes the body doses of the current calender year and the body dose of all years
• dosimeter (own + barcode or GSI-dosimeter)
• form "safety procedures at GSI" must be read and signed

 

 

Official personal dosimeter and barcode

 

If GSI employees or guest scientists need an official personal dosimeter or just a barcode, please contact Mrs. Schmalz (d.schmalz@gsi.de) and Mrs. Freml (g.freml@gsi.de) via email (please send also a copy to Dr. A. Knapp (a.knapp@gsi.de)).

 

Please send them the following information:

- last name, first name, date of birth, home institute

- In which department do you work in GSI? What is your GSI contact person?
- When do you need the official dosimeter or the barcode?


For the access to the controlled areas you need a medical certificate. This certificate must contain the following information:

  • last name and first name
  • date of birth
  • date of medical examination (not older than 12 months)
  • statement that there are no health concerns regarding a work with ionizing radiation
  • Name and address of the physician 

Please send us also the certificates for the general safety and the general radiation protection instruction. (You get the certificates when you do the online instructions.)
