12th International Workshop on the Physics of Non-Ideal Plasmas

September 4 - 8, 2006, Darmstadt, Germany

First Announcement

Dear Colleagues,

The Initiative Committee invites you to participate in the 12th International Workshop on the Physics of Non-Ideal Plasmas to be held at the Technische Universität Darmstadt, Institut für Kernphysik, Schlossgartenstrasse 9, Darmstadt, Germany, on September 4-8, 2006.

The Workshop continues a traditional series of meetings devoted to new theoretical and experimental results on the physics of dense plasmas: Gosen, 1991; Rostock, 1993; Binz, 1995; Rostock, 1998; Greifswald, 2000; Valencia, 2003. There will be invited and topical talks; a poster session is planned as well. In addition, we expect your suggestions on the organization of special sessions to be devoted to the FAIR-Project at GSI.

Contributions may be submitted as regular papers to the journal "Contributions to Plasma Physics" to form a special issue. One page contributions may be submitted to the annual report "High Energy Density Physics with Intense Ion and Laser Beams" published by GSI Darmstadt.

The Workshop topics include: statistical physics and mathematical modeling (including simulation) of strongly coupled Coulomb systems, equilibrium properties and equation of state of dense plasmas, kinetics, transport and optical properties of dense Coulomb systems, dense hydrogen, laser and heavy-ion-produced plasmas, dense astrophysical plasmas, phase transitions in plasmas and fluids, dusty plasmas.

Information on Darmstadt, the City of Science, Commerce and the Arts are available at http://www.darmstadt.de The attributes to the name of the city emphasize its national and international standing in the fields of scholarship and research. Darmstadt's prominent position in these fields derives from the innovative achievements of the Technische Universität Darmstadt and the accomplishments of numerous public and private research institutes as well as the many companies engaged in intensive research in Darmstadt, among them:

  • European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT)
  • European Space Operation Centre (ESOC)
  • Forschungseinrichtungen der Merck KGaA
  • Forschungseinrichtungen der Telekom AG
  • Gesellschaft für Schwerionenforschung (GSI)

Darmstadt is also referred to as a city in which the arts are alive. It has become a home of the avant-garde since the beginning of the 20th century.

For interested persons we will arrange for guided tours. More information will be available later.

The LOC asks you to register as soon as possible, but not later than April 30, 2006. Fee (before April 30, 2006): 150 EUR, for later payment: 200 EUR. This fee will include: participation, workshop materials, welcome reception (Sunday evening September 3, 2006), coffee breaks, conference dinner and social events.

A list of recommended hotels will be included in the Second Announcement.

I am looking forward to meeting you in Darmstadt.

Dieter H.H. Hoffmann
