X-Ray Lab

Instead of the Main Amplifier the Pre-Amplifier output beam can also be directed to an additional experiment place, the so-called X-Ray Lab. Stretched femtosecond pulses up to 4 Joules can be recompressed in a separate pulse compressor. This experimental place is currently mainly in use for the study of X-Ray lasers.
The key values are:
  • Maximum output power at target chamber: 10TW
  • Repetition rate: determined by Pre-Amplifier

10 TW compressor: Set-up of the double-pass single 400 mm gold grating compressor with tuneable pulse duration to sub 300 fs. Compressed pulse focused in air creates play of colors.

Target chamber: Vacuum chamber with the set-up to generate seeded soft x-ray lasers. View into the target chamber during a shot: Frequency doubled green laser light generating high-order harmonics to seed the soft x-ray laser produced in the blue laser plasma plume.
