Introduction

The research focus of the division Nuclear Reactions is the investigation of reactions with heavy-ion beams, in particular rare-isotope beams at energies well above the Fermi energy. The study of nuclear reactions is aimed at the understanding of fundamental nuclear properties and dynamics, as well as the investigation of astrophysical reaction rates.

Instrumental for this experimental research activity are the main GSI installations, as the Fragment Separator (FRS) the Experimental Storage Ring (ESR) and the devoted experimental tools, like the R3B/LAND setup for experiments with secondary beams.

Our division is actively involved in the design and development of the future NuSTAR experimental setups at FAIR.  These are in particular the scattering experiments R3B, EXL, and ELISe.
