RESPA - REsidue production in SPAllation reactions relevant for the incineration of nuclear waste

EURATOM Research and Training Programme on Nuclear Energy

The accurate prediction of formation cross sections of isotopes produced in spallation and fission reactions at intermediate energies is of extreme importance for the design of Accelerator Driven Systems (ADS). A dedicated experimental program, devoted to reaching a full comprehension of the proton-induced spallation reactions, started in 1996 at the GSI. The RESPA project is part of this large campaign of measurements.

In the RESPA project the spallation of 136Xe in proton and deuterium targets at the imping energy of 500 MeV per nucleon was studied experimentally. The experiment was performed at the FRagment Separator (FRS) at GSI.
